Macbook Air 2020 I7: Review

products review

The new macbook air 2020 I7 is the very first Mac laptop to offer quad core processors and 16GB memory without an expensive price hike. After years of struggling with inadequate specs, the MacBook air finally has a facelift.

The MacBook Air's tenth generation Intel Core i5/i7 processors run up to 20 per cent faster than their predecessors. These improvements are due to a higher clock speed, more threads and a higher boost frequency.

Although this boost is helpful for CPU-intensive tasks, such as video editing, it also means that the i5 is slightly slower in terms of performance when compared to models with the same price, like the Dell XPS 13. This won't cause any problems for most users. However, most people won't notice any difference in their MacBook Airs' performance if they are only using them for short, single-core tasks.

Battery Life

Thanks to its long-lasting batteries, the MacBook Air can be considered one of the best laptops for working from home. Apple claims the new machine can be used for as much as 11 hours of web browsing or 12 hours of video playingback. While this isn't exactly right in our tests, it's still better that many other Windows machines at the exact same price.

Display

The Apple display on the new MacBook Air doesn't get the P3-wide color support it does on the Macbook Pro, but it's a decent enough display for everyday use. Although the brightness is lower than the MacBook Pro's (400 Nits vs. 500 Nits), it is still bright enough to be used in most situations and has plenty of contrast to ensure colors look true.

Keyboard

The Magic Keyboard on the MacBook Air is a vast improvement over last year's butterfly keyboard, with more space for typing and the ability to reconfigure keys and arrows. Although there are some issues with the keyboard, the new layout is a significant improvement over the old Airs' clunky arrow keys.

The Air's keyboard can be a little bit cramped in comparison to larger MacBook Pros. Also, some of the reconfigured Arrow keys may take some time to get used too. Overall, the Air's keyboard makes it a more enjoyable Mac laptop than any other.

Powerup

The macbook Air 2020 i7 features the latest version MacOS, Catalina. This represents a huge change from iTunes-based OS X on all Apple laptops before 2018. This makes it easier for macOS apps to be used and reduces iTunes to a sidebar. It also means Apple has unified its own music, podcasts, television services and podcasts into one app.

The 2020 MacBook Air is equipped with an i7 processor. It has a base frequency 1.1 GHz with a boost up to 3.5 GHz. This can be reduced to 1.33 GHz if you don't need it. It's paired up with 8GB of RAM as well as a 512GB, PCIe-based SSD. This should be enough to meet most peoples' needs.
